Relax Center Plejsy
The ski centre Relax Center Plejsy is situated at the northern slopes of the Krompašský vrch (Krompachšský Hill - 1025 m) in the Slovenské Rudohorie mountains, close to the town Krompachy. In the centre there is a large number of ski slopes suitable for both down-hill as well as cross-country skiing of all difficulties (beginners, intermediate and advanced).
International Ski Federation (FIS) approved that the ski slopes are suitable for international ski competitions in slalom, giant slalom and Super G slalom.
The slopes are artificially snowed by snow-canons and other equipment of the Kässbohrer company. Average length of a winter season is 123 days and average snow cover is about 80 cm deep.
Of course, you will also find there a parking place, fast food stores, elevated wire-way, ski-lifts (capacity of 5500 people/hour), ski-rent and of course a ski-service.
Krompachy
The history of Krompachy began in the 13th century. The first written references of the town are from the years 1256 and 1264. From the available historical documents we can assume that already in 1282 Krompachy was an important settlement and one of the main centres of mining and metallurgical industry. This was the case up to the 20th century.
In the 19th century a small iron processing company, Metallurgical Company of Krompachy, arose in the village. New mills of iron and copper metal sheets were built shortly after. By the end of the 19th century iron-works of Krompachy employed about 3500 people. At that time it was the biggest iron-processing company in Ugrian kingdom. After the World War I. it was closed. In 1921 a revolt started in Krompachy, which resulted in a bloodshed. A new copper processing company was built on the foundations of a former iron-works in 1937. It was destroyed by retreating German army troops by the end of the World War II. Another new electrotechnical company was built in 1948. Copper processing was renewed in 1951.
After the World War 2, Krompachy became a prosperous town especially thanks to its industrial production that was so important for the whole former Czecho-Slovak state. A large number of new blocks of flats were built together with schools, swimming-pools, a post office building, department stores and other public buildings.
After 1991, thanks to huge investments, the ski centre Plejsy became an internationally respected centre of down-hill skiing competitions. Industrial recession was also one of the factors that caused that Krompachy became an important tourist centre.
In the town, there is a classicistic Roman-Catholic church of St. Ján Evangelista from the year 1774, an Evangelic church, a chapel of St. Ján Nepomucký from the year 1776, an old metallurgical furnace, a baroque curia and the first hydro-electric power plant in the eastern Slovakia.
In summer season there are lots of free accommodation facilities in Krompachy. From the town you can hike to many interesting places in surroundings, rich on natural beauties and cultural monuments. Tourist trails are very well marked, suitable also for mountain biking. For those who prefer water-sports, we suggest to visit a water-dam Ružín, situated only 13 km far from the town.
All the attractive tourist facilities, beautiful scenery of hills, valleys, forests, meadows as well as a large number of unique cultural and natural monuments give to the town Krompachy a perspective to become an important tourist centre also in summer. Unlike to many other tourist centres, visitors can find here peace and silence and unforgettable experiences from the walks to the local mountains and valleys.
